Calculated Risks...What to do...

So, I am not sure what to do...do I do another IUI or do we just have good, old fashioned baby making?

The success rates for IUI's are not much higher than doing so naturally, as long as there is a good sperm count.

"The overall success rate (for an IUI) seems to be between 15-20 percent per cycle, judging from the articles which will be abstracted below." http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/iui.html

Whereas the success rate of naturally trying for a woman in her 30's are: 20%. http://www.health.com/health/article/0,,20411697,00.html
So, knowing that I have at least one, maybe two maturing follicles in my ovaries and have a trigger shot...I know I will ovulate...is it worth going through the IUI, or should we do this on our own this time?

We do not have sperm issues, there are plenty and they are healthy...it's a matter of ovulation for us.

I just don't know what to do because we have done 5 IUI's and all have failed...and it feels like this whole process has gotten so technical and scientific...

My Love and I have a decision to make, but would love your input and suggestions.

  1. Can you do both? Have the IUI and then just have as much natural fun as you can get in? I know nothing on these matters, but I would think chances would be higher that way, plus you get a lot of hubby love. I suggest a drunken night out for you and the hubby, to let thing go and relax ( I'll happily babysit ) crossing my fingers for you guys as always.

  2. My vote is the good ole' baby making. With V starting school it might be too hectic of a time to do all of that clinical stuff. Let me know when you are free to go out you need a break!

  3. E and I are planning on doing TI when he's home for r&r if this current IUI is a bust. I've been doing research on the IUI success rate and it seems like the odds of getting pregnant the old-fashioned way and through IUI are similar. Talk it out with your husband and do what's best for your situation.

  4. I think doing both is a good idea. Double the odds! After doing all the meds and all that at this point I wouldn't want to leave it up to TTC naturally if it were me.

  5. We did/are doing both. We triggered and "had fun" Monday night, IUI-ed this morning, and are planning on "having fun" again tonight and tomorrow night, just for good measure. Our issue is the ovulating as well, not sperm. I feel like at least with the IUI, the sperm have a shorter distance to travel, so at least they can party with my egg for longer.

A question to ask yourself- if you end up with a BFN this cycle, will you blame it on NOT doing the iui?

Good luck! It's nice to have someone only a couple days off of me- we can keep eachother sane the next two weeks!

  6. It seems like your odds are just as good naturally. Good luck whatever you decide!!
